Lorelei Marie Dear
Lorelei opened her eyes as her alarm clock started buzzing. It was on low, but she always woke up with no avail to it. She set it that way so she wouldn't wake up her roommates, but it still annoyed her that she never really knew how she managed to wake up to such a thing. She had always woken up when a maid or her parents woke her up, and since college she had never really gotten used to waking up to an alarm clock, but she somehow managed. She rubbed her eyes, looking over at the clock. Monday morning, what a beautiful way to start teh day. She sat up, flipping the covers off her legs as she reached up and pulled the large curlers she had put in her hair the night before out.[/blockquote]
She walked over to the mirror on top of her dresser, looking at herself. The curls were large and loopy, just the way she liked them. She knew that most college girls didn't take the time to do their hair like this, but she had always been taught to look her very best. Slipping on her heart diamond necklace from her father, she smiled at herself in the mirror, ready to face the rest of Monday morning with smile and poise. She quickly pulled on a black skirt and a yellow blouse that showed off her pale skin, slipped on some black pumps and grabbed her tooth brush. She never left her room in her pajamas, she always got ready for bed after and she brushed her teeth at night and got ready for the day before she brushed her teeth in the morning. People shouldn't see her like that.
She brushed her teeth and dropped off her tooth brush in her room, grabbing her purse and the books she needed for first period this morning. She felt her stomach grumble, and was again glad she always gave herself enough time for breakfast in the morning. Not that anything in the cafeteria was actually to be mistaken for something edible, but she would take that any day over going to a place like McDonalds. Honestly, who actually took time to walk all the way over there. She walked quickly to the cafeteria, wanting to get a piece of fruit and toast before everyone took them, seeing how they were a safe choice. Honestly, who could screw up toast adn fruit? Unless the toast was burnt, but usually the cooks weren't that bad.
Crossing her fingers, she held her breath at the thought. She entered the cafeteria, the noise of students hitting her. Her pumps made soft clicking noises that only she could hear, but it was a comfort she made an entrance all teh same. Not many girls dressed like her for school, but her mother had always taught her not to compare herself to people who didn't things less best than she did. She must always keep herself at a high standard. She smiled at this, walking a straight line that had been drilled in her since birth. She headed over to the line, grabbing a tray to get her food with.
Luckily, the fruit and toast was not gone. She slipped some raspberry jam on the plate of toast and grabbed a grapefruit to help her out. She headed quickly over to the lunch lady, smiling politely. The lunch lady rolled her eyes, handing her a mug filled with steaming liquid. They had an agreement. Lorelei brought her two chocolate eclairs from the good chocolate store at the end of every week in return for an actual cup of real English tea. It was the one thing that Lorelei lived for from day to day. She was English, and if they didn't get their tea, they tended to get more cranky than usual, and no one wanted to see Lorelei cranky. She slowly turned with her tray, heading over to the one empty table.
She knew it was sad, but in her three years, she had never really made any really close friends. She was just not the college girl type. She was the Lady type. She sat and observed other people acting wildly. She didn't interact, and if she really wanted to, she was sure she could. She sat straight up in her chair, one leg folded underneath the other, and took a sip of her tea. Just right. Dear lord, that cook could make tea. Not that she could make anything else, but she was willing to forgive her as long as she had her tea. Lorelei felt her body relax as much as someone who didn't relax's body could, and she enjoyed her moment of silence in the crowded cafeteria.
