REFLECTION;
- OKAY, SO HERE'S HOW MY HISTORY GOES: ...not too great. First of all, I was born in hickville, Indiana to really neat guy who liked a not-so-neat girl. My Dad was fantastic - he'd teach me all sorts of stuff. Mostly about day-to-day life since he'd never gotten a very good education, but most importantly, he taught me how to draw. He was never really very good at lifelike drawing, so he taught me how to draw Goofy. Then Mickey Mouse, then Donald Duck - soon I was drawing all the Disney characters I could find. I was a lot better than my old man at it by that time, though I was failing regular school. Mom used to yell the house down, telling me I'd never be anything but I remember how proud Dad was when I showed him this stupid little flip-book I'd made of Hercules stabbing a minotaur. My parents were chalk and cheese, and I never why they were in love. Then I realized my Mom wasn't - at least not with Dad - and, furthermore, that he knew it. I've never been able to forgive her for that, though my Dad did shortly before he died of cancer. I don't know how.
Anyway, after that me, my Mom and my little sister (who always got top marks in her class and was really sweet to me even though she was a little vain) hauled out and moved to Chicago like she'd always wanted. I dropped out of that school since I didn't like the class they put me in because of my dyslexia. It was full of people who couldn't count to three and whatever my Mom said, I wasn't stupid. I'm not now either, and I've always hated people who judge me because of my background, or the way I speak. Delivering pizza was my day-job, but I'd started to get in with the wrong crowd after hours. It was only a matter of time before I got mixed up in something I shouldn't have and ended up coming out all smashed up.
It turned out that a brush with death was exactly what I needed to wake up. I went back to high school, graduated with decent marks (except in English, which I failed miserably - big surprise) and enlisted in Wonderland Academy, as far away from my home as possible, using all the money I'd saved up from the years of pizza delivery. They very nearly didn't take me, but must have seen something in my work at the last minute. The only thing was, I didn't tell my mom until I was on the boat over. She was pretty pissed, but she'd never have let me go otherwise. The only thing I regret is leaving my little sister, but Mom never had a problem with her so it's not all bad. And I figure it can only get better.
